Community Support Waiver

The Community Support Waiver (CSW) is a Kansas Medicaid program that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live more independently at home and in their community. It is for people who need support but do not need care 24 hours a day. With the CSW, you can choose services that match your needs. These services can help you build skills, stay involved in your community, and get support from people you know and trust. The CSW is part of Kansas’ effort to give more people access to home and community-based services. The waiver was approved on July 1, 2026, and started on October 1, 2026. During the first year, Kansas can serve up to 500 participants. With self-direction, you have more choice and control over your services. You can help decide who supports you, when support is provided, and how services fit into your daily life. GT Independence helps by taking care of many of the paperwork and administrative tasks, so you can focus on living the life you want.Community Support Waiver Program Overview
Community Support Waiver Program Serves
- Kansas residents, 5 years old or older
- Have an intellectual disability that began before age 18 or a developmental disability that began before age 22
- Have been found eligible for the program by KDADS
- Meet the Medicaid requirements for long-term care services
- Qualify financially for Medicaid through KDHE

How to Get Started
Talk to your case manager. Tell them that you’re interested in Self-Direction.
If you’re eligible, your case manager will make the referral to GT Independence.
