CommUNITY: It’s More Than a Theme—It’s a Core Value
At GT Independence, we know that successful self-direction isn’t just about managing payroll and budgets. It’s about building strong, supportive communities where everyone can truly live the life of their choosing. This was the driving force behind our recent GT Week event, an annual gathering that brings together employees from across our organization to learn, connect, and celebrate our shared mission.
At GT, we believe that empowering individuals through self-direction strengthens not only each person, but all of us — together. When we unite around our shared purpose, we create a culture where everyone’s voice matters and every contribution counts. This served as a powerful reminder that CommUNITY is at the heart of everything we do.
To reinforce this commitment, we were honored to donate a combined $15,000 to three inspiring nonprofit partners across Connecticut, Maryland, and Michigan.

Strengthening Our Commitment to Connecticut

GT Independence is proud to be the fiscal intermediary (FI) in Connecticut, a role we embraced starting March 2024. Our service is powered by systems and technology that are designed for ease of use, including our GT Portal and GT App. Most importantly, our work is defined by our unwavering focus on listening to the community to ensure we provide the consistent, high-quality support they deserve. This commitment to local needs is further demonstrated through our strong support of valuable community organizations.
Our support of local organizations is a key part of our long-term commitment to Connecticut.
We were proud to continue our partnership with Peace, Love & ACCESSibility (PLA) in Connecticut with a $2,500 donation. This contribution comes on top of our $2,500 sponsorship of their successful Community Access Awareness Day this past June, where every contribution helps bring us closer to a world where accessibility isn’t a question.
PLA’s dedication to advocacy for accessibility and inclusion aligns with our mission to support independent living and self-directed care in CT. We are incredibly proud to champion their work to make Connecticut a more inclusive place for all.
Supporting Aging and Self-Direction in Maryland

Our commitment to community impact also extends to our partners in Maryland, where GT is a financial management and counseling service (FMCS) for several waiver programs.
We had the privilege of presenting a $5,000 donation to the Genevieve N. Johnson Senior Day Care Center in Maryland. For nearly 40 years, this center has provided a safe, welcoming place for seniors to experience a joyful, quality-driven life, and for caregivers to find much-needed support.
Their work in adult daycare and caregiver respite is vital for promoting healthy aging and for supporting families engaged in self-direction in Maryland. As a leading FMCS in Maryland, we are dedicated to partnering with local groups that empower people to live life on their own terms.
Giving Back in Our Home State of Michigan

As a family-founded, disability-led company, our roots are firmly planted in Michigan, and we are dedicated to enriching our local community.
In our hometown of Sturgis, Michigan, we were honored to present a $5,000 donation to the Sturgis Area Community Foundation. The Sturgis Area Community Foundation celebrates the spirit of the community — lifting up its strengths, embracing new possibilities, and honoring everyday heroes — neighbors, families, and local organizations — who pour their hearts into making life better for others.
The Foundation’s work supports a wide range of essential services that enrich the quality of life for all people in St. Joseph County, such as the City of Sturgis Downtown Lighting Project, which celebrates Sturgis as the “Electric City,” and the newly renovated accessible playground at Meyer Broadway Park.
We are proud supporters of Michigan’s independent living programs, including the MI Choice Waiver Program, and we are grateful for partners like the Sturgis Area Community Foundation who help build stronger communities for everyone, especially those using GT Independence Michigan services.
Looking Ahead: Partnership and Progress
The missions of Peace, Love & ACCESSibility, the Genevieve N. Johnson Senior Day Care Center, and the Sturgis Area Community Foundation go hand-in-hand with our pursuit of helping everyone live the life of their choosing.
At GT Independence, we remain committed to providing the tools, technology, and support necessary for successful self-direction across all the states we serve. By investing in these meaningful partnerships and continually improving our operations, we are dedicated to helping our participants and providers thrive.
