Structured Family Caregiving Program Overview

Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) is a Medicaid funded program in Florida that lets certain family members get paid to care for an older or disabled loved one at home. This program is usually funded through Florida’s Medicaid Waiver programs, like the Participant Directed Option (PDO).

Who the SFC Program Serves

A person can get SFC services if:

• They qualify for Florida Medicaid.
• They need help every day, like with bathing, dressing, or eating.
• They need the level of care usually given in a nursing home.

How Caregivers Are Paid

Caregivers are not paid by the hour. Instead, they receive a tax-free monthly stipend determined by the level of need of the participant. GT Independence handles the paperwork, payroll, and taxes for the family.

Who Can Be the Caregiver

To be a caregiver in this program, you must:

• Be 18 years old or older.
• Be related to the person you care for (but not their legal guardian).
• Live in the same home as them.
• Pass a background check.
• Help every day with personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, etc.).

With the Structured Family Caregiving Program You Can

• Self-direct your own care
• Hire people you trust to provide support
• Schedule the time you receive services
