Learn about self-direction in Georgia

How do I hire long-term services for myself or a loved one?

With self-direction (also called participant-direction and consumer direction), you have the right to live the life you choose. Right in your own home and community, no matter your age or ability.

Everyone’s situation is different. For some, self-direction means the ability to receive personal assistant services from a loved one. For others, it’s supporting parents so that they can care for children with disabilities. Or, it may simply be that as you get older you want to continue living where you choose and get care from someone you trust.

You deserve to live the life you choose. GT is here to make that easier.

How GT Independence Can Help You

GT Independence is a fiscal intermediary (FI) company that helps you live a life of your choosing. You decide what kind of personal assistant services you want; we handle the details. For example, you hire people you know and trust as employees (also known as providers or caregivers). We help you by taking care of all the necessary paperwork, such as timesheets, paychecks, taxes, and insurance.

At GT, we believe everyone should be able to decide where to live and who provides their care. Through self-direction, they can. Each person has a unique situation and personalized needs.

GT is here to help you learn about how self-direction works in Georgia, so you have the information to decide what is best for you.

Available Program in Fulton Country, Georgia

Fulton County Consumer Directed In-Home Services

Fulton County’s program offers individuals the freedom to manage their own care. Through Consumer Directed Care, eligible participants can hire, train, and, if necessary, terminate their caregivers.

In this program, participants serve as the employer of record for any hired staff or services. Participants may seek support of a designated representative, if desired, to ensure care is delivered according to the client’s preferences.

This program is designed to promote autonomy, dignity, and choice—putting control back into the hands of those receiving care.

Three Steps to Get Started

  1. Review the programs and choose the program that best fits your needs.

  2. Confirm you meet the program requirements to apply.

  3. Talk to your care coordinator/case manager about working with GT Independence as your fiscal intermediary (FI) provider.
